Résumé

In the quiet towns and back roads of Arkansas, some deaths are easier to dismiss than others. When men begin turning up dead in the same roadside motels, Detective Walt Pruitt sees a pattern that refuses to fit any ordinary explanation. The victims have little in common, yet their deaths carry the same unsettling marks. As the investigation widens, Walt finds himself confronting a case that may be connected to something far beyond the motel rooms where the bodies were found.
At the Cassell Gazette, investigative reporter Ellie Voss notices a different pattern. Land is changing hands around Millard Creek through a maze of small corporations and unfamiliar names. A seemingly ordinary rural church, the Second Heavenly Kingdom Fellowship, has a financial structure that does not quite add up. When young reporter Dana Ferris begins asking questions, she discovers a congregation that appears warm, charitable, and tightly knit-and a system of money, land, and influence operating quietly beneath it.
Walt and Ellie are following separate trails, but the trails are moving toward the same place. Across three connected novels-The First Sign, The Hidden Gospel, and The Last Revelation-a motel murder investigation grows into a far-reaching conspiracy involving missing people, secret financial arrangements, religious authority, and institutions willing to look the other way. Every discovery raises another question, and every answer reveals a deeper layer of the same hidden structure.
As the investigators learn that the dead may be only the visible part of a much larger story, the greatest danger may not be discovering who committed the crimes, but discovering who has spent years making sure the truth remained buried. The Second Heavenly Kingdom Omnibus collects the complete three-book crime mystery series in one volume.
