Résumé

A woman wakes with no memory on a road in Havana. The man who put her there loves her. Seth Macklin drowned in a New Hampshire lake in 1999. Three days of divers found a shotgun and half a boathouse and no body. Thirty-two years later, he is in a room under Havana, watching his niece interview the man who wrote a book about his death. The book got the facts right and the man wrong. So Seth takes her.
Angel Genova wakes on a road four hours later with no name and no history, and for a fortnight she is nobody at all. A stranger takes her in. She learns sixty names before she learns her own. Four thousand miles away, her husband is on a plane with the wrong visa and the right photograph. What Seth built was an experiment. What he did not build was a hurricane, a colonel, a boy in a truck, and a woman who turns out to be better with nothing than she ever was with everything.
Everyone in this book gets a second chance. Not one of them gets the one they asked for.
