Lily lives on a farm with her father and stepmother, spending her days with her animals and a scarecrow at the edge of the field. Then, one day, the scarecrow starts to talk. Crude and menacing, it claims it saw a fatal car crash on the road below. In fact, Lily's father was there, too, as the car plunged into the pond-the same place where Lily's mother died.
