Set in modern-day Brazil and Afghanistan, Salomé: Many lives, one heart by Sandra Carneiro (dictated by the spirit Lucius) follows Rafaela, an award-winning Brazilian journalist. While on assignment in Kabul, she witnesses the horrific stoning of a young woman named Farishta. Deeply traumatized, she connects with Farishta's younger sister, Laila, who is being raised as a boy named Lemar to avoid oppression.
Despite being brutally beaten by Laila's father, Rafaela returns to Brazil obsessed with the Afghan girl's plight, sinking into a severe depression plagued by nightmares of being burned at the stake. Meanwhile, Rafaela's cousin Luana attempts suicide after discovering her husband Bernardo's infidelity. Through the intervention of their elevated deceased grandparents, Eva and Amaro, Luana receives spiritual treatment in the astral plane, learns about her past-life karmic debts as a cruel landowner, and finds healing at a Spiritist center.
Guided by a Spiritist psychologist named Clara, Rafaela undergoes past-life regression. She discovers she was Alice, a peasant burned as a witch in the Middle Ages. Astonishingly, Laila is the reincarnation of Henri, the knight she loved who betrayed her, and Farishta was the cruel Bishop Robert who condemned her to the flames. Rafaela realizes her earthly mission is to learn forgiveness and help women.
In Afghanistan, Laila is forced to marry her sister's murderer. In despair, she sets herself on fire but survives, severely disfigured. Rafaela finances her reconstructive surgeries, and Laila eventually finds refuge with the RAWA organization and falls in love with a kind musician named Hassan. Transformed by her spiritual awakening, Rafaela leaves her superficial journalism career, marries her supportive boyfriend Giovanni, and founds an NGO dedicated to supporting abused women.
Dictated by the spirit Lucius, the novel is a profound exploration of reincarnation, the karmic roots of violence against women, and the urgent need to reclaim the divine feminine essence to regenerate the Earth.
