Résumé

Fred Rwigema, the visionary founder of the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), is justly revered as Rwanda's steadfast Moses, fearlessly guiding the Tutsi back to their homeland on October 1, 1990, after enduring three decades of exile. Rwigema possessed a profound vision for a united, democratic, and prosperous Rwanda. He actively cultivated a collaborative leadership that included both Tutsi and Hutu, along with influential industrialists, all united by a shared commitment to realize his ambitious aspirations.
However, following the tragic loss of Rwigema, Paul Kagame seized control of the RPF, systematically undermining Rwigema's ideals through savage warfare. The dream of a harmonious, democratic Rwanda-rooted in inclusive leadership and economic collaboration-was effectively obliterated. Moreover, Kagame unleashed a wave of terror against Rwigema's family, driven by a deep-seated insecurity concerning Rwigema's enduring legacy.
The pivotal date of October 1, 1990-the day Rwigema bravely led the RPF home-has been intentionally erased from Rwanda's historical narrative. If Rwigema were to witness the current state of affairs, he would be horrified by two glaring contradictions. First, rather than a unified leadership, Kagame's regime is largely filled with Hutu politicians who have been recycled from exile. Second, Kagame's Rwanda is dominated by white men, predominantly from the United States, who occupy key positions across almost all critical institutions. The erasure of Rwigema's vision, legacy, and achievements is not only tragic but serves as a stark reminder of the upheaval that arises from a dictator's relentless pursuit of power.
Rwigema's dream of an inclusive and prosperous Rwanda stands as a powerful symbol of hope, overshadowed by the chaos that has ensued in its absence.
