Andreas Mehl was professor and chair of ancient history at the universities of Koblenz-Landau, Darmstadt, Erlangen-Nürnberg, and Halle-Wittenberg (since October 2011 retired). His fields of research are ancient, especially Roman historiography, Hellenism (Seleucid empire, Cyprus), the history of ancient Cyprus, and ancient culture and civilization.
