For three years, former covert operative Kade Mercer has lived alone in the Mojave Desert, hiding from the agency he once served and the fatal mission he cannot forgive himself for. Then an impossible aircraft falls from the night sky. At the crash site, Kade discovers a damaged intelligence made of structured light. It identifies itself as the VX-9 Sentinel, an experimental predictive-threat construct created by the secretive Axiom Defense Directorate.

The damaged Sentinel believes an ancient mechanism called the Anchorfall Engine may be their only chance to repair the GhostTalon, stabilize Kade's neural bond, and determine what the signal means.
Axiom intends to stop them first. Leading the pursuit is Markus Dane, a precise and relentless commander authorized to eliminate every witness. Axiom also deploys Rylan Keene, an enhanced Shadow operative and GhostTalon countermeasure who has been conditioned to believe Kade died three years ago.
