Summer 261 AD. The Roman empire lies divided. Threatened on all sides by barbarian invasion and wracked by internal rebellions. The light of civilisation burns low. While from the East the Macriani usurpers are advancing towards Italy, determined to challenge emperor Gallienus's power. Thrown into the desperate battle to save what remains of the empire, Corbulo and his ala are soon embroiled in the fight of their lives. Alone, outnumbered and far from home their task is complicated by treachery and division.
