Valentina returns to Mexico determined to start over. After the events that shattered her life, she yearns for the comfort of familiar streets, the warmth of family, and the feeling of finally belonging somewhere. But the peace she imagines is short-lived. The cartel still has unfinished business with her, and the past she tried to bury is clawing its way back. When threats turn into deadly pursuit, Valentina has no choice but to run again-this time north, across the desert, slipping illegally into El Paso under the cover of darkness.
Alone, with nothing but her wits and the clothes on her back, she struggles to build a new identity while keeping her head down. But trouble has a way of finding her. Shadows from both sides of the border close in, blurring the line between friend and foe.
