After the tragic death of her musician husband, Elizabeth DiCostanza has isolated herself in the happy home they once shared. Elizabeth's life is one of solitude, grief, and loneliness deep in the swamp of small-town Stone River. After a year of grief, Elizabeth decides, on a whim, to sell her house and everything in it to start a new life, one where she can live for herself. As she prepares to leave Stone River, Elizabeth learns of her husband's murky past, a past she knew nothing about, and his possible involvement with a decades-old murder.
As Elizabeth begins to unravel the story of the past, a story which she has inextricably become involved in, she learns that the woods around her home in Stone River hold more than just creatures of the swamp. She learns that a much more sinister presence lurks there, aided by the deeds of the past, waiting for Elizabeth to make a choice: leave Stone River forever and let the dead be as they are, or stay and fight to unravel the truth, even if it means her own undoing.
