Résumé

This collection brings together a series of short prose texts united by a quiet and persistent human desire: the wish to encounter those who are no longer here. Set in contemporary, familiar settings, the stories explore moments in which the boundary between the living and the dead seems to thin-not through fear or spectacle, but through subtle, inward experience. These encounters are not hauntings and do not follow the conventions of horror.
They unfold calmly, often unexpectedly, as fleeting intersections shaped by memory, longing, and attention. The dead do not return as messengers or symbols; they appear simply as presences-ambiguous, incomplete, and deeply human. Their arrival does not bring answers or closure, but a heightened awareness of absence itself. The texts resist explanation. They offer no rules, no metaphysical systems, and no definitive interpretations.
Instead, they dwell in uncertainty, allowing the reader to inhabit a space where memory becomes a threshold and desire quietly reshapes perception. What matters is not whether these encounters are real or imagined, but what they reveal about those who experience them. Meditative in tone and restrained in language, this collection invites slow reading and reflection. It is addressed to readers drawn to literary fiction that values ambiguity, stillness, and the unspoken-stories in which the extraordinary emerges gently within the ordinary, and where the dead return only briefly, leaving behind a deeper attentiveness to what it means to remain.
Bogdan Mateciuc was born in 1972 in Braila (Romania), a town on the Danube. After graduating from high school in his home town, he attended the POLITEHNICA University in Bucharest, obtaining a BSc in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for many years in the commercial field for various companies. He discovered his passion for writing during his University studies, writing opinions and translating texts on controversial topics (alternative history, therapy for homosexuals, etc.).
The recurring idea in his texts is the reunion of people from different times. Although he does not consider himself a nostalgic, Bogdan has a particular view on the passing of time and the temporal existence of people, especially family members. The texts in which he describes reunions with people from the past should not be classified as dark or scary, but should be approached with a smile and hope.
Bogdan Mateciuc lives in Bucharest, is married and has three children.
