Die Verfassung der Weimarer Republik von 1919 ordnete das Schulsystem, den schulischen Religionsunterricht sowie das Staat-Kirchen-Verhältnis neu. Vor diesem Hintergrund untersuchte der "Arbeitskreis für historische Religionspädagogik" auf seiner Jahrestagung 2018 die Frage, wie sich gesellschaftspolitische Demokratisierungsprozesse und konzeptionelle, inhaltliche sowie systematische Ausgestaltungsformen religiöser Bildung wechselseitig beeinflussten.
Der vorliegende Sammelband vereint 13 Beiträge von Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftlern aus Religionspädagogik, Politik-, Erziehungs- und Geschichtswissenschaft.
Diese widmen sich dem Verhältnis von schulischer Bildung und demokratischen Verfassungen anhand historischer Entwicklungen in Deutschland, Frankreich, der Tschechoslowakei und den Vereinigten Staaten.
