Résumé
"The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?I, the LORD, search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve."(Jeremiah 17:9-10)In Colossians, Paul compares new life in Christ to removing old, dirty, and smelly clothes and replacing them with fresh, fragrant garments. He explains that to be adopted as children of God, we must first put to death the sinful ways that separated us from Him.
This requires acknowledging that we once walked in behaviours that provoked God's wrath (Colossians 3:5-9). God's desire is to adopt us and free us from the frustrations, pain, and corruption of this world, offering instead a new life of joy, peace, hope, and fellowship with Him. Through faith in Jesus, the door is opened for our adoption as sons and daughters of God, initiating a new life filled with His blessings and promises.
This journey begins by leaving behind the habits of our old life and embracing the new ways of living taught and directed by the Lord Jesus Christ. It highlights the truth that we cannot fully live as God's children while continuing in behaviours that oppose Him. If we do, those old habits will inevitably draw us back to our former selves.
