Résumé

Chinese inventions like the magnetic compass, gunpowder, seismograph, and paper money changed the world. Physicists like Niels Bohr and author Fritjof Capra (The Tao of Physics) have shown that the Chinese conceptually also anticipated the quantum physics. A closer look shows that the Chinese also anticipated the binary logic that forms the basis of digital computing and Artificial Intelligence. In an engaging and accessible style, this book sheds light on unfamiliar stories at the intersection of science and culture?:?- The Chinese reconciled space and time aesthetically centuries before Einstein did so mathematically- German binary code inventor Gottfried Leibniz argued that the Chinese first used the binary code- The ancient Chinese who invented the compass understood we are living in an (electro)magnetic universe- Both quantum physics and AI use George Boole's algebra of classes that resembles the yin-yang logic of the I Ching- When quantum physics and AI cross paths, science will find itself on common ground with philosophy and spirituality
