Résumé

Rodulfo Todio only needs work. His mother's medicine is running out. His sister has already learned how to ask for less. The bills at home have started to sound louder than warnings. So when a recruiter offers him a support job with housing, food, and fast pay at a new site in Pulong Anino, Rodulfo tells himself what desperate men always tell themselves: it is probably safe enough. The exact address will come later.
By dawn, he is inside a van with eight other workers, riding past flooded fields, silent houses, a chapel stained by old water, and a school where the children are kept on the front road. His phone loses signal before he can tell his mother where he is. At the gate, the message is still waiting to be sent. Then the compound takes the phones. Inside Pulong Anino, everything has a process. IDs are held for validation.
Meals are logged. Badges replace names. Workers are told they are not prisoners, only pending clearance. Questions become delays. Delays become debt. Release is possible, but never today. At first, the horror looks human: guards, payroll records, locked dorms, fake customer-support scripts, missing workers explained away by forms. But the compound was built over old ground, and something beneath it has learned to speak through pipes, drains, black water, and borrowed voices.
It knows the names workers whisper in the dark. It knows who they love. It knows what answer will make them turn their heads. Rodulfo survives by remembering what his phone could not send: the chapel bend, the school gate, the dogs that refuse the back paths, the road that sinks under water, the people who look away too late. With Jun, a young worker still waiting for his mother's call; Nestor, a local who knows the old rules and the cost of breaking them; Mercy, who measures care in rice, salt, and stolen minutes; and Ivy, who turns receipts and manifests into evidence, Rodulfo must find a way out before the compound changes their status for good.
But Pulong Anino does not only hold workers. It answers them. And outside the gate, the village already knows one rule: stay on the front road, do not follow voices through the dark, and never trust a place that will not tell your family where you are. For readers of social horror, folk horror, and survival thrillers, Pulong Anino turns the modern nightmare of hidden scam labor into something older, hungrier, and harder to report.
Pulong Anino is a Filipino folk-horror thriller about labor exploitation, online scam compounds, debt, hunger, family obligation, failed communication, and the old appetites that survive inside modern systems. Dark, propulsive, and deeply unsettling, it asks what happens when a job does not need chains to trap you-only paperwork, silence, and a road that remembers every worker who disappeared.
