Résumé

As the Psionic Sciences Institute is taken over the military, the Psionic Investigations Unit is disbanded and Sandy Yau finds herself out of a job. Against her husband's wishes, she decides to join the new organisation, known as PsiForce. Jonathan Kendall, once a promising ESPer, now an unemployed drunk, is still mourning the loss of his and Sandy's five year-old daughter, Mary. Considered to be the most powerful psyker ever recorded, she was abducted from outside a store and brutally murdered.
Even though her body was eventually recovered, Jonathan still feels the poor child is still out there somewhere, lost and trying to communicate. The new PsiForce training program is overseen by one Brigadier General Frank Cassidy, a gruff, paranoid career soldier with a badly scarred face and some interesting psionic powers. He wants only the best for his cadets, but he feels his efforts are being undermined by his superior PSI Director Anton Styner.
This slippery, but highly intelligent character has managed to claw his way to power by using his own unusual, previously unheard of psychic talent. He has a grand vision for the future, but there is one thing standing in his way, one thing that needs to be destroyed before he will be able to rest easy. While Sandy begins the life of a psychic solider, Jonathan undertakes his own journey in search of Mary.
In dreams and visions he saw her calling to him. Meanwhile Sandy has problems of her own. Basic training is not nearly as easy as she thought it would be, the other cadets don't like her, the food is terrible - and someone is trying to kill her. Who can Sandy turn to for help? The surly General Cassidy? The odious Director Styner? Alone in the bleak wilderness, Sandy discovers the awful truth connecting all the mysteries."Beneath the shiny white veneer we call civilisation, there's a putrid, festerin' lake of shit with stuff swimming in it ten times scarier than your worst nightmare." - Frank Cassidy.
