It was founded in 1989 as the Psychodrama Institute for Europe e. V. with the aim of using the methods of psychodrama, sociometry and psychodramatic group psychotherapy to support the people and the democratisation processes in the then socialist countries of Eastern Europe and to develop the application of psychodrama in various fields such as psychotherapy, education, organisational development, counselling and theatre. To this end, trainings in psychodrama and sociometry are conducted and promoted in various countries, projects are organised and international conferences are held together with the national member institutes.
