Portrait of a Soul

In this emotional and richly structured novel, the story unfolds through the lives of seven women. Each of them is connected in a different way to the painter Benjamin, a man whose presence profoundly shapes their destinies. The narrative is told through a variety of forms - short stories, letters, a screenplay, email correspondence, poetry, a wartime report, and memoirs. Despite its unusual structure, the author creates a compelling and cohesive story, guiding readers through a series of dramatic and deeply human life situations that reveal the vulnerability of his characters.
The novel is set in Croatia and spans six decades, from 1960 to 2020. The first edition of the novel was published in October 2023 by Mozaik knjiga in Zagreb. It received a very warm response from both readers and critics, and the first edition sold out within four months. A second Croatian edition was published in February 2024. The novel has since been translated into English, Polish, and Albanian.
