Plastic Ghosts

Bellweather, 1994. Chrissy Trapper is twenty-two, bored out of her mind, and very good at running Video City-when she isn't arguing with inanimate objects, sketching strange handmade dolls, eating Burger Bunker with the clerk next door, or finding new ways to irritate Future Video's self-appointed executive. Then a battered old VHS tape moves when it shouldn't. One of Chrissy's regular customers begins wasting away after repeatedly watching an obscure horror movie called The Phantom of Red Hollow.
Something inside the film is getting stronger. Something with antlers. And it isn't staying on the screen. Soon Chrissy, her analytical best friend Nick, and their insufferably confident rival Harold discover that Bellweather's video stores inherited more than a pile of forgotten movies. Creatures from old B-movies are beginning to push into the real world-and every one of them obeys the cheap, ridiculous rules of the movie that created it.
Unfortunately, learning those rules means watching the tapes. As bodies begin piling up, the three clerks have to turn video-store trivia, bad special effects, obsolete equipment, retail-store junk, and one suspiciously convenient machete called the Late-Fee Collector into an increasingly desperate survival strategy. And the deeper they dig into Bellweather's forgotten video-rental history, the more Chrissy begins to suspect that these tapes have been part of her life much longer than she realized.
