A diverse picture book exploring self-love and resilience with fun and friendly characters. There are simple exercises children (and adults!). can use to feel better throughout the book. The children you'll meet in this book are black, white, Asian, South American and Indigenous American. Some of what makes them special includes a limb difference, using a wheelchair, a port-wine stain, visual impairment and a cleft palate.
However the book is not about this, it is all about acceptance, resilience and self-love. The characters love and accept their unique bodies, enjoy movement, know they are perfect, accept difficult situations, work through emotions and know that love is there whenever and wherever they need it. I liked that throughout the book there's also an interactive element noted by a 'Try it with me' star and helps to integrate breathing exercises and positive affirmations into the story.
The Illustrations are clear and vibrant helping to depict times of difficulty and unhappiness as well as joy and positivity. I think the inclusion of these different situations in the illustrations can lead to further discussions about differences and being kind to others and yourself. 'Perfect: A Self-Love Adventure' is a sweet picture book with a worthwhile and positive message for young readers."
