Colonialism brought with it several wars and thousands ofdeaths. The locals did not want to give up their lands but thecolonials were determined to capture the lands and set up theirbusiness and extend the boundaries of their nation. One suchwar was fought among the Pequot and the English colonistswhose allies were other Native American tribes. Pequot lost thewar to the English. Before the war the Pequot controlled whatis today modern Connecticut and Long Island.
The Pequot hadcontrolled the lands, trades and the other Indian tribes too. Before the arrival of the English the Dutch were on theselands. The Pequot people had used inter-marriage anddiplomacy to gain power in the area along with the Dutch bytheir side. The other tribes had also wanted to control the furand wampum trade. The Pequot had made Indian enemiesalready and when the English arrived on the island theseenemies made allies with the English and attacked the Pequotwhich led to the Pequot War.
