Résumé

The first adventure in a brand new Western series from John Rose Putnam! On a cattle drive, about two dozen cows were stolen overnight. While some thought it best to move on and let the losses go, Pecos Quinn, Andy's Pa, wasn't willing to allow some petty rustlers take his cows and went after them alone. When he didn't return, Andy and his buddy went in search of him. The tracks led to a tiny town with a small hotel run by a surly barkeep.
While eating dinner, Andy and his friend noticed some men who looked like buffalo hunters and carried big bore buffalo guns, but these days the buffalo were mostly gone. Andy wondered what was up. He decided to stay the night. Sure enough, late that night a couple of those buffalo hunters came out of the saloon and took up positions along the dusty road through town. Not long after, a small herd of maybe two dozen cows came down the road and passed right under his window.
Something here began to stink like an old outhouse. The next morning, Andy and his sidekick followed the cattle tracks to a small valley stock full of stolen cows, all guarded by men with long range, powerful buffalo guns. The out of work buffalo hunters were stealing cattle. When Andy didn't run across his pa near the stolen cows his worry increased. Pecos could be hurt somewhere or worse. Pecos rode a horse with a unique shoe.
Andy had followed it easily to the town. Now if he could find another track of that shoe it may point to where Pecos had gone, or even where he was. He might be wounded or, heaven forbid, even dead, but Andy wouldn't stop, no matter what.
