Michiel Ross, a retired police officer, reminisces about a missed opportunity to catch notorious diamond smuggler Nic Baumgarten in 1950s South Africa. Despite extensive investigations, the shipment of diamonds never surfaced, and Michiel was left feeling defeated. Years later, Nic becomes a resident in Michiel's retirement home, and the two men reconnect. Michiel still holds a grudge against Nic, but when Nic hints at the hiding place of the diamonds, Michiel is forced to confront his regrets and make a decision about what is truly important to him.
