Résumé

Where do you see yourself in five years? Not a question to ask a wizard. When Eric Ramsey gets expelled during his final year of college, studying magic, his sister Jessie takes shore leave from Earth Navy to check in on him. Sisterly concern for Eric's future confronts a desperate need to justify his actions. A demonstration of how he'd gotten expelled results in an accident that launches the pair five years into the future.
Mission 1: Tempus Fugitive Five years gone in an instant. Eric Ramsey is now a wanted criminal for his use of time magic. Jessie is AWOL. Worse, in their absence, Earth and Mars have broken out in civil war, and she's behind enemy lines. Now, the two fugitives must work together to escape the forces that want them dead, captured, or exploited for their own ends. Mission 2: Terran Incognito The galaxy is a big place.
In theory, it should be easy to lose two people in it. Jessie and Eric Ramsey were counting on that when they booked anonymous transport to a little-known space station. But humans are social creatures, and the need for food, shelter, and transportation forces them into interactions and leads to betrayals. Mission 3: Xeno's Paragon Refugee status carries less stigma and more calm than Jessie Ramsey expected.
Phabian is modern, welcoming, and militarily formidable enough that neither side in the civil war can afford to piss them off over two criminals. Even notorious misfit Eric finds a place. But when Jessie gets embroiled in the schemes surrounding a larger-than-life alien explorer from the far reaches of the galaxy, her peaceful haven gets an expiration date. Mission 4: Time and Punishment A dead alien starship is no place anyone wants to be.
The same could be said for the crosshairs of a pair of inquisitors hunting for a renegade wizard. But trapped in the depth of the Black Ocean with no backup, no tech, and more wizards than allies, Eric and Jessie Ramsey are going to be sorely pressed to guide their new comrades through this fiasco alive. If only they knew someone who might lend a hand. Bonus Short Story: Race for Space With a derelict alien starship to explore and refurbish, Jessie Ramsey's new crew embarks on a lighthearted competition to stake out the best quarters and furnish them with the best junk from the ship's voluminous cargo hold.
It's all fun and games until.Black Ocean: Passage of Time is a science fantasy series set in the late 26th century. What if Futurama jumped 5 years ahead instead of 1000? What if Doc and Marty lost the car keys? What if Bonnie and Clyde were siblings instead of lovers? Passage of Time jolts the Black Ocean universe forward into new adventures and new perils with a new cast of zany misfits trying to outsmart the galaxy just to get by.
Strap in and hold on tight. Passage of Time is the latest series in the Black Ocean universe, and it's an action-packed, mystery-filled, madcap ride across the galaxy!
I am a creator of worlds and a destroyer of words. As a fantasy writer, my works range from traditional epics to futuristic fantasy with starships. I have worked as an unpaid Little League pitcher, a cashier, a student library aide, a factory grunt, a cubicle drone, and an engineer--there is some overlap in the last two. Through it all, though, I was always a storyteller. Eventually I started writing books based on the stray stories in my head, and people kept telling me to write more of them.
Now, that's all I do for a living. I enjoy strategy, worldbuilding, and the fantasy author's privilege to make up words. I am a gamer, a joker, and a thinker of sideways thoughts. But I don't dance, can't sing, and my best artistic efforts fall short of your average notebook doodle. When you read my books, you are seeing me at my best. My ultimate goal is to be both clever and right at the same time.
I have it on good authority that I have yet to achieve it. Visit me at jsmorin.com
