Parthenope – Neapolis – Napoli. Bilder einer porösen Stadt

Bis in die 60er Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts war die Stadt am Golf ein Sehnsuchtsort, und auch heute noch blühen die Zitronen in Unteritalien. Dieser Band mit Beiträgen aus der Archäologie, der Geschichts-, Kunst-, Musik-, Film- und Literaturwissenschaft zeigt aber, dass Neapel auch stets ein Hort der Unruhe, des Zwielichtigen, wenn nicht des Anrüchigen war und ist. Die Stadt ist so durchlässig wie der Tuffsteingrund, auf dem Parthenope einst erbaut wurde.
Als »Stadt des Porösen« (Walter Benjamin) steht Neapel für eine reiche antike Überlieferung, für eine hoch entwickelte Opernkultur und eine barocke Verblüffungskunst, die ihresgleichen sucht, aber auch für die lange spanische Fremdherrschaft, für blutige Rebellionen und nicht zuletzt für die Auswüchse globalisierter Kriminalität. This volume with essays from archaeology, study fields of history, art, music, film and literature depict that Naples also was and still is a hotbed of unrest, of shadiness not to say disreputability. The city is as porous as the volcanic tuff on which Parthenope once was built.
