Résumé

A wealthy man believes he can dominate, believes that he has what everyone else wants. But in that he may be misguided, and the gods will tolerate a misguided man for only so long. Somewhere in time, on the edge of a cold ocean, there lies a sleepy fishing village, about to be shaken up by a strange cast of characters: a lovely young girl from a tribe of mountain nomads and the brutish trader who has purchased her, a pair of sisters who run an inn as well as a business of questionable legality (not that business), a law student hiding from the wealthy thug who needs to silence him, and Bou Bou the parrot, the most outrageously foul-mouthed bird, in that part of the world, at least.
This village is being governed - and plundered - by ambitious mining and lumber companies, by men of wealth and power, until one of their own changes the agenda, because he had learned from these backwoods villagers about a wealth far deeper, far more enduring. In tales that come from a place far to the north of everywhere, the age-old conflict between powerful and powerless creates turmoil, though it drives changes as well.
The final resolution, however, is shaped by the oldest force in the world.
