Résumé

"I am a figure of the pitch darkness at the center of a black hole..." In this eclectic collection of flash fiction pieces, dark fantasy author Rachel Neal Vincent explores dreams, fantastical lands, and--even more terrifying--the real world. Written during her early days of adulthood, these stories showcase a young woman finding her voice and dipping her toes into the dark waters that would become her home.
Vincent urges readers and characters to question what is real and what is right through both heartwarming and heartbreaking moments that dance with each other in surprising synergy. Dive into the swirling clouds of the nebulae and join in a magnificent journey through eleven different spaces of curiosity. Included also is a personal commentary on each story where Vincent travels back to the time of writing and offers insight into what made the stories what they are, as well as a bonus short story.
Rachel Neal Vincent is an author, singer/songwriter, and (sort of) professional gamer. She started telling her own stories with her Barbies before she even knew how to write, and one time in sixth grade she made up an off-the-cuff ghost story that scared all her classmates out of sleeping that night. As a child, she spent her time using daydreams of fantastical places to cope with the hardships that came her way, but those same daydreams created vivid lands she could share with others.
While she is terrified of the dark, she has a deep and morbid curiosity for the monsters that live there, be they human or otherwise. These two facets of her personality create the color palette for her fiction. She has three degrees in creative writing-Associate's, Bachelor's, and Master's. She has written for popular interactive story apps and continues to work as a writing coach and freelance editor who partners with independent writers and small publishers.
She spends her free time completing video game achievement lists, spoiling her dog, and researching how to become a mermaid. You can find her on Instagram, TikTok, Substack, Ream, and Patreon, but she spends most of her time on her various YouTube channels.
