This book is a humorous and self-deprecating account of how the author and his wife and stepson spent weeks wandering around Jordan and the United Arab Emirates in the Middle East, forsaking luxuries such as 5-star hotels, air-conditioned restaurants and guided tours. They rode taxis, buses, boats, tuk-tuks, horses and camels, braved severe heat and desert dust and ate street food while baffling the people they met with persistently atrocious attempts to talk Arabic.
Along the way they managed to see some of the most memorable places on earth, such as Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea in Jordan, and the world's only 7-star hotel in Dubai.
