Résumé

Benson's life is forged in tragedy long before he understands what peace looks like. During a violent conflict that tears his community apart, he survives while many others-including a young couple-do not. In the aftermath, Benson discovers their three-year-old daughter, Rebecca, alone and defenseless. With no surviving family and no safe future ahead of her, Benson makes a decision that will define the rest of his life: he takes the child with him and vows to protect her at all costs. From that day on, Benson raises Rebecca as his sister.
He becomes her shield against hunger, fear, and abandonment, enduring hardship so she can grow up secure. Rebecca grows into childhood and adolescence believing Benson is her older brother, unaware of the truth behind their bond. She remembers nothing of the violence that took her parents-only the quiet presence of the man who became her entire world. Years later, Benson finds work in a dangerous mining town called Greenfield, where exploitation and poverty coexist with wealth drawn from the land.
While working at the mines, Benson suffers a severe accident and is rushed to the company hospital. Rebecca, now a young woman, arrives in panic and offers her blood to save him. When the test reveals their blood is incompatible, a painful truth begins to surface-one that Benson can no longer hide. When Benson regains consciousness, Rebecca confronts him. Forced by circumstance and guilt, Benson finally reveals the truth: they are not related by blood.
He tells her how he found her after the massacre, how he chose to raise her as his sister, and why he kept the truth hidden-to give her safety, identity, and a sense of belonging. Though the revelation shakes Rebecca deeply, it does not destroy their bond. Instead, it redefines it. As Benson recovers, emotions long restrained come to the surface. Rebecca realizes her feelings for him have grown beyond sibling affection, shaped by years of protection, sacrifice, and devotion.
She confesses her desire to remain by his side-not as a sister, but as a partner. Benson admits that he has loved her for years but restrained himself out of responsibility and respect. He agrees to a future together, on one condition: Rebecca must first complete her education. Rebecca leaves for the University of Wembel, where she encounters independence, temptation, and social pressure. She gains new friends-Ophelia, who supports her loyalty, and Roslyn, who mocks her devotion and pushes her toward Derrick, the wealthy son of the mayor.
Despite gifts, financial assistance, and constant persuasion, Rebecca remains faithful to Benson, choosing love built on sacrifice rather than comfort or status. Through the years of university life, Rebecca matures into a confident, intelligent woman, while Benson continues to work, save, and quietly support her dreams. Distance tests their bond, but it never breaks. When Rebecca graduates, Benson is there-watching with pride as the child he once rescued from chaos steps into her future.
Their journey, marked by survival, truth, restraint, and chosen love, comes full circle. The story ultimately affirms that family is not defined by blood alone, but by sacrifice, truth, and the courage to stay when everything else falls apart.
