Résumé

Produced in association with the Natural History Museum, London, this book compares the biggest and smallest plants and animals in the world, showing why size is important for their survival. Find out about a range of animals from huge elephants, lengthy crocodiles and ginormous whale sharks to small shrews, tiny hummingbirds and microscopic fairy flies. See each in their own habitat and discover how they have grown so big or small.
Covering fish, birds, trees, flowers, insects and even dinosaurs, this book is a lovely introduction to the diversity and extremes of nature in our world.
Michael Bright has worked as an executive producer with the BBC's world-renowned Natural History Unit, based in Bristol, and with its Science Unit in London. He is author of over a hundred books on wildlife, science, travel, and conservation, including many for children. His bestseller Africa: Eye to Eye with the Unknown accompanied the popular television series presented by Sir David Attenborough.
He is the recipient of many international radio and television awards, including the prestigious Prix Italia. He is a graduate of the University of London and a corporate biologist and member of the Royal Society of Biology. Gavin was fascinated by the natural world from an early age and spent much of his childhood drawing and painting animals and birds. He later studied BA Natural History Illustration at Bournemouth Arts University.
Working as an illustrator in-house for a number of years, honing his skills in character design, his style gradually evolved from scientific into children's picture books. When he's not working he loves rock climbing on the Dorset coast and riding and fettling his old Triumph motorbike.
