Résumé
In My Former Best Friend, Charlie Gyrth explores a gainer romance that starts in a very dark place. Joe's happy life is interrupted by the sudden appearance of his high school bully Landon. As children, they were best friends, but once puberty hit, Landon made Joe's life miserable. And now, a decade later, he's standing on Joe's doorstep begging for a place to stay. Joe takes him in, but old resentments resurface and he can't stop himself from exerting control over every facet of Landon's life, including what he eats.
He doesn't realize that he's purposely trying to fatten Landon up until the former hunk starts to grow a belly. As Landon expands, the two start to overcome their complicated past and form a new relationship: as a gainer and an encourager. My Former Best Friend tackles some darker themes than Charlie Gyrth's usual stories (bullying, revenge, homophobia), but it builds toward an uplifting ending for two men who find love in the unlikeliest situation.
And as a bonus, the short story Big, Fat Principal shows what happens when an overweight author runs into his much, much bigger friend from high school.
