My Book Of Miracles

I'm 71 and have lived a very hard and very difficult life. I have abused drugs, I've survived accidents that should have killed me, several old childhood friends died prematurely, and I have a non-curable cardiovascular disease. I've filed bankruptcy twice, haven't had a car in over 10 years, I rent a furnished apartment and all I own is a cellphone, T. V., computer and clothes. By far the worst experience was the sudden death of my wife 21 years ago.
We had been married for 20 years and were joyfully experiencing a second honeymoon on our first cruise. Mary Jo died when a blood clot exploded her heart. She was only 43. We were on a dance floor celebrating and drinking campaign. At that time, well-meaning friends talked in platitudes about God, and I wanted to hear absolutely none of it. I've experienced the dark night of the soul where nothing means anything and all hope is gone; unrelenting loneliness and extremely deep re-occurring depressions.  Looking back, all I can say from experience is God never left my side.
