In Brooklyn in the year 2147, amateur PI Stella Grady is offered a job in the exotic Four Quarters of Imagination; it's a vacation spot where the rich and powerful can live out their wildest fantasies. The poor are the extras hired to fill roles in their storylines, their words, their lives and their deaths can all be scripted for a price. Stella has been warned never to sell herself, but her back is against a wall; her adoptive family are in crisis ahead of the year's taxes.
If they can't pay, their children will be requisitioned and sold to plantations or sweatshops in the south to pay down the debt. So she takes a job hunting a fugitive through the Quarters, not knowing if he's a rogue 'story-jumper', a radical human rights activist, or just a hardened cop from her own 83rd precinct on a mission to rescue his sister. Her reward is for bringing him in, and he'll let her if she'll first work with him to expose the human trafficking ring beneath the world's shiny surface.
