Jacob, lonely and alone is trying to sort out his life following the death of his wife. He takes a short break a a coastal resort he visited as a child. It is there he sees a woman standing at the end of a pier looking out to sea. She seems troubled and distant. He speaks to her and with the ice broken he invites her to have lunch with him. They get on and they swap contact details before parting.
Later upon arrival at home Jacob is brutally attacked and left for dead. A chain of events follows which culminates in a death which exposes a life of brutality and coercive control and shines a light on a family at war.
