Charles Brockden Brown (1771-1810) was an American novelist, editor, and historian who worked in Philadelphia and New York. He is known for Wieland (1798) and the serialized fragment Memoirs of Carwin the Biloquist (1803-1805), early examples of American Gothic fiction. He also edited the Literary Magazine, and American Register.
