In Viramor, truth hides behind wood, and silence bleeds like ink... In the city of Viramor, every citizen wears a mask that defines their role, and no one takes it off. Crying is forbidden, as tears are the city's only source of water, and books are banned, as letters might bleed truths too dangerous to read. But Elion, a boy born without a mask, lives in the shadows of an abandoned mask-making shop.
When he begins to hear the whispering of masks at night and bleed at the memory of their creation, he stumbles upon secrets buried beneath centuries of silence. When his only friend is imprisoned for shedding tears, Elion travels to the Duke's palace, where eyeless servants roam and walls are made of the faces of those condemned to death. What he discovers beneath the city-a revolt led by a woman with seven masks, a queen buried in stone, and a vault of repressed emotions-will unravel everything Viramor holds sacred.
Elion must choose: protect the city's cruel order or destroy it forever with the final tear.
