When Bay gets the call that his brother and sister-in-law have died in a car accident, he cuts his business meetings in Japan short and rushes to his brother's home where their four children have been left without parents. He's been busy enough with his business that he barely knows the kids, so he's not only mourning but feels completely lost. Pete has been with the family since before the kids were born and was one of the first people to hold each of the four kids.
He's devastated when Tony and Cindy are killed, and he's not quite sure what to make of Bay when the man rolls up a couple of days after the tragic accident. When the will makes it clear that Pete is to stay on as the children's manny until the youngest is eighteen, both men breathe a sigh of relief. As they start to figure out their new normal, they begin to develop feelings for each other, but Bay is Pete's boss and the last thing he wants is to make Pete uncomfortable with his interest, and Pete doesn't want to overstep anyone's boundaries.
