Lizzi has mostly moved on from the incident with the bank, and her fellow students seem to have forgotten. It helps that she's now eating lunch and riding with Lirael Runebitten, the daughter of a powerful Elf family who can make things happen. But Lizzi is struggling to keep up with her other friends, and when the school starts a rodeo club, she's thinking about adding something else to her already busy schedule.
Lizzi realizes she's going to have to choose, and a rough dressage test brings that choice ever closer.
