Résumé
Lucy Letby is a former neonatal nurse convicted of murdering seven infants and attempting the murder of seven others between June 2015 and June 2016.
Letby was working at the Countess of Chester Hospital at the time. The general facts of this case and the convictions will be broadly familiar to the reader by now. The trial was one of the longest in English legal history. When the verdict was rendered it wasn't uncommon for Letby to be compared to Myra Hindley in the media.
But the conviction wasn't the end of the story. It was only the beginning. There remained an unquantifiable number of people online who disagreed with the conviction and insisted that Lucy Letby was innocent. This unexpected movement only seems to have become louder as the months and years rolled on. This is something which those involved in prosecuting the trial have found surprising and even frustrating.
One can only imagine how the parents of the infants who died must feel to have to listen to this debate. How do they get closure on this terrible case when people keep insisting that Lucy Letby is innocent and the trial was a gross miscarriage of justice? Do these claims have any validity?
