Résumé

A family retreat in the North Georgia mountains was supposed to give Jack Mercer one last chance to hold his marriage together. Instead, the cabin begins to remember what he has spent fourteen months trying to bury. Jack arrives with his wife, Sarah, and their two children at an inherited cabin hidden deep in the Georgia woods. The place belonged to his late Uncle John, a man who always seemed to know more about the land than he was willing to say.
At first, the trip feels like a desperate attempt at normalcy: grilled dinners, creek walks, bunk beds, and forced family peace. Then the road starts looping back to the cabin. Symbols appear carved into trees. Dead birds are arranged like offerings. A locked room appears where no room should exist. A girl named Clara begins reaching for Ellie, Jack's unnervingly perceptive daughter, from somewhere inside the forest's memory.
And the woods are not interested in every secret. Only the ones people have convinced themselves they can live with. As Sarah begins to realize that her husband's silence is not just emotional distance but something far worse, Jack is forced to confront the truth about Lenny Cade, his former business partner, his oldest friend, and the man whose disappearance has never been properly explained. But the forest does not merely expose guilt.
It keeps records. It inherits silence. It waits for children who can hear what adults refuse to say. Caught between a haunted family legacy, a county that has learned to look away, and something ancient moving through the pines, the Mercers must decide what is more terrifying: the truth coming out, or the possibility that the land has known it all along. Southern Gothic, psychological horror, and family tragedy collide in Lost in the Wilderness, a haunting novel about buried sins, inherited fear, and the terrible cost of being known.
