Résumé

Key Selling Points Stevie is a little underwater volcano who can't wait to grow up. Accompanied by lots of fascinating volcano facts and amazing illustrations, we follow Stevie's story until she erupts to find that she's a hotspot volcano in the Hawaiian island chain! Full of fun facts, this book includes famous examples of each type of volcano, information on how volcanoes are formed and what hazards they can cause, and looks at how volcanologists study them; the backmatter consists of a fact page, glossary and author's note.
The third book in the series after Little Cloud and Little Pine Cone, Little Volcano is another friendly age-appropriate look at a powerful (sometimes violent) part of nature, leaving space for how volcanoes give back to their environment and how their destruction compares to humans' impact. Author Johanna Wagstaffe is a meteorologist with a degree in geophysics, and she brings her expertise-and fascination with planet Earth and its powerful phenomena-to this subject matter.
Award-winning illustrator Julie McLaughlin's sweet yet detailed illustrations bring the exciting world of volcanoes to life and perfectly complement this mix of narrative and nonfiction.
Johanna Wagstaffe is the meteorologist and science host for CBC Vancouver and CBC News Network. She is the author of Little Pine Cone: Wildfires and the Natural World, Little Cloud: The Science of a Hurricane and Fault Lines: Understanding the Power of Earthquakes. With a background in seismology, geophysics and earth science, Johanna has covered a wide range of science stories, from the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfire and the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami to the Paris Climate Change Conference.
She lives in Vancouver, British Columbia. Julie McLaughlin is an award-winning illustrator of numerous children's books, including Pride Puppy!, Little Cloud, Plant Attack!, Breaking News, Star Sailor and Why We Live Where We Live, winner of the 2015 Norma Fleck Award for Canadian Children's Non-Fiction. Julie grew up on the Prairies and now resides on Vancouver Island.
