Based on the eight-part video series of the same name, funded by the National Science Foundation and MathWorks, "LIGO: A Discovery That Shook the World" tells the inside story of the discovery of gravitational waves and the concurrent discoveries of colliding black holes and colliding neutron stars 2015-2017. The discoveries opened a new era in astronomy and won the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics. National Geographic named them first in its list of "The Top 20 Scientific Discoveries of the Decade." Author-director Les Guthman began a collaboration with the LIGO Laboratory, Caltech and MIT before the discoveries were made and witnessed every twist and turn in what became a remarkable two-year run of mind-bending, historic scientific discovery.
