R. Y. Yanai grew up in a small town in Israel. She is the second child in a family of five. During her childhood, she used to write fantasy stories about distant, imaginary worlds, which she kept in a drawer over the years. She dreamed of faraway worlds from a young age. Her academic path, which included studies in psychology and urban planning, broadened her horizons but did not extinguish her creative spark.
When she became a mother, Yanai began inventing and composing new stories, which she told her children during bedtime and family trips. One of those stories became her debut novel, Light Summoner.
