Résumé

They came for him at the worst possible time, wouldn't take no for an answer. Old friends, knowing he'd saved a little girl from a monster. Knowing he'd received a million-dollar reward. Henry Herbert is grieving when they appear. Friends from his teenage years who helped him through the loss of his father. Friends he left behind after he joined the Police, since they didn't exactly obey the law. They know what Henry's been up to, have followed his success as a Private Investigator, and they need his help.
The leader of the pack, Nathan, has a six-year-old daughter who's missing, taken by her mother. They need to find her as soon as possible. Henry tries to ignore their request, urges them to involve the police, but the situation is complicated. His old friends are still up to their old ways, operating outside the law, and they need Henry's discretion. Because the mother has taken more than the daughter, and there are other people involved who are very angry, adding more urgency to an awful situation. Soon, Henry is entrapped in a world he worked hard to pull himself away from, with everyone's life in danger, his newfound wealth offered as collateral.
But Henry has built a new group of friends and family, those who operate within the law, who will help him find the girl and betray everyone he used to know. Only, he just might sacrifice himself in the process. It's easy to let the past die, until it claws its way back into your life.
