Résumé

It all began on a summer night towards the end of July. To this day, I am still unable to tell you exactly what triggered the events, even though seven years have passed since 2015 and I have thought about it a great deal. Of one thing I am certain, from that moment on, I began to better understand myself, my past and the life I lived every day.   Above all, to my amazement, I also began to see other meanings, in books and on paintings, sculptures, buildings and monuments.
It was as if they concealed a deeper significance than what is commonly taught in schools, which consider little more than the formal, aesthetic and poetic aspects in a work of art. I was able to understand details I had never considered before, believing them of little importance and therefore negligible. Instead, I was beginning to discover that these works - now as then - still form the basis of the hermetic and alchemical studies to which many people from all walks of life have devoted themselves throughout history! This is something that Leonardo da Vinci certainly must have done in his day and to which he dedicated various aspects of his paintings, probably in spite of the will and cultural background of his patrons.      In each of his works - which as a whole represent the fundamental stages of his artistic and human journey, from the earliest youthful endeavours to his mature period - Leonardo strove to expose not only the more obvious meaning expected by his patrons, but also the keys to understanding hermetic and alchemical mysteries and the laws that not only support life on earth and in the cosmos, but also the spirit and intelligence of human beings.    This brief essay is dedicated precisely to the analysis and interpretation of the hermetic and alchemical clues deliberately implanted in Leonardo's paintings.
