Learning How to Learn

One of the most important skills that we have never beentaught in our schools is "learning how to learn". Most of ushave progressed most of our lives without this essentialknowledge. Even if we have been told that highlighting, summarizing, rereading etc. are the basic techniques that helpus learn; we have never been taught any proven, solid orresearch backed techniques. All of these are merely handeddown thru generations and due to the rapidly evolving natureof knowledge these days; these techniques have proved almostunproductive.
Contrary to popular belief 'learning' can be an acquired skilland like in all other walks of life; it requires practice andpatience. With today's rapidly changing global environment;knowledge is constantly evolving, unfolding and increasing. It isvitally important to stay abreast with the latest developments inone's field to even just ensure a mere survival. Getting to thetop, however, requires constant effort along with a coherent, target oriented and focused approach.
'Learning' skills can honeyour mind to consistently stay sharp and can facilitate you incapturing as well retaining all that is required for longerdurations of time. This in turn will manifest itself as increasedpersonal efficiency and much more enhanced productivity. Mastering the ever-evolving knowledge spectrum requiresconsistent effort and hard work. There are various tactics thathave been researched by experts to be of importance indeveloping knowledge skills.
With the help of these skills, nomatter how tough or alien the subject may be, any individualcan enable their mind to effectively learn about it. Learning andretaining information are two different things. Effective learningensures long term information retention. It also enables quickretrieval of learned information whenever and wherever itsrequired. Therefore, 'learning how to learn' is an imperativerequirement for all.
