Résumé

Your child is special and has a unique learning ability. While good teaching is purposeful, and academic preparedness gives your child an early edge to gain fluency in reading, the onus rests on you, the parent to invest in level-appropriate books, books that a child can easily learn from, and master. Like this e-book, the first in a series of five books based on the Dolch List Sight Words at Pre Primer Level.
The words covered in this book are - a, and, away, big, blue, can, come and down. The book is written in large print, to make it easy for beginner readers. It is available in all formats, to make it easy to access from your reader, your computer or even your phone. Each of the five books in this series covers another eight words, and they are all equally important in helping children learn how to read.
Therefore, correct sequencing in going through the books is important. That sequencing cannot be over emphasized because all the words taught in these books also form part of the English School Syllabus for early reading in most schools around the world. With most parents hard pressed for time, and with so many books to choose from, it is indeed, hard to tell which of the books available help children learn the basic reading concepts correctly.
That is why, the educational children's books I write, like this book, are written to help children learn concepts - the building blocks to correct use of basic words. This particular series of books focuses on the Dolch List, with a view to mastering those words, and helping your child learn how to read. It is very important for parents who buy these books, to help their children through all five books from book one to five, to enable the children to learn the basics correctly, through familiarizing of words and, through repetition.
The Dolch word list is a list of frequently used English words compiled by Edward William Dolch, a major proponent of the "whole-word" method of beginning reading instruction. The list was prepared in 1936 and was originally published in his book Problems in Reading in 1948. The list contains 220 "service words" that have to be easily recognized in order to achieve reading fluency in the English language.
The compilation excludes nouns, which comprise a separate 95-word list. Between 50% and 75% of all words used in schoolbooks, library books, newspapers, and magazines are a part of the Dolch basic sight word vocabulary. The words in this ebook are used with illustrations and are aimed at children who now need to concentrate and focus on mastering reading. To your child's reading success!
