Résumé

Learn about World War I takes readers on a clear, engaging journey through one of the most important and transformative conflicts in world history. Written especially for curious young readers, students, and history enthusiasts, this book explains how the Great War began, who fought in it, and why its consequences are still felt today. From the assassination that sparked the conflict to the muddy trenches of the Western Front, readers will learn how soldiers lived and fought, how new technologies like machine guns, tanks, submarines, and airplanes changed warfare forever, and how civilians on the home front supported the war effort.
The book also explores the roles of major nations, the formation of alliances, and the events that led to the war's dramatic end. Clear explanations, age-appropriate language, and carefully chosen historical topics make complex events easy to understand without oversimplifying history. Readers will discover what daily life was like for soldiers, why trench warfare was so deadly, how the war spread across continents, and how the Treaty of Versailles reshaped the world.
Learn about World War I is ideal for classroom learning, homeschool studies, or independent reading. It encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices made during this global conflict. Whether you are learning about World War I for the first time or looking for a clear and accessible overview, this book provides a solid foundation for understanding the war that changed the modern world.
Born in Germany while his father served in the U. S. military, Donald Yates was raised in Middle Tennessee and went on to serve 20 years in the United States Army. His career in uniform took him across the globe, including deployments and duty assignments in Germany, Korea, and Iraq, as well as stateside postings at Fort Ord, Fort Campbell, and Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). He is especially proud to have served briefly with the storied 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) during his time in Iraq (2003-2004).
An advocate for lifelong learning, Yates holds multiple academic degrees. He earned an Associate of Arts in General Studies from the University of Maryland, a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with Cum Laude honors from Washington State University, and a Master of Arts in Communications from Austin Peay State University.
