In the harsh and unforgiving landscape of 1829 British North America, Claire Appleton has never ventured far beyond the confines of her hometown.  Her life is one of relentless toil and quiet endurance. Harold, her restless husband, envisions a life of adventure, a chance to escape the hardships they face, and he proposes a radical idea: uprooting their lives and embarking on a perilous journey 900 miles in search of a better future.  The thought of leaving everything she knows, fills Claire with trepidation.
