Violence is often understood exclusively in unilateral terms-men against women. In fact, most definitions point in that direction, such as the one that states that gender-based violence "is violence perpetrated against women simply because they are women, aviolence that crosses borders and cultures and continues to persist despite progress made in other areas of society" (Ramos, 2012). However, there is a vast silence regarding violence against men, as if the only violence that existed were that which affects women.
